英语里的直接宾语简称宾语，是及物动词短语中补充说明动词，使动词的意义完整的部分。
那么，宾语有哪些功能呢？宾语可以表示：
（1）直接对象。
I found him at last. 我终于找到他了。
（2）使役对象。
She stood the child on her knees. 她让孩子站在自己的膝盖上。
（3）结果。
They built a new house. 他们建了一幢新房子。
（4）内容。
What did you say? 您说什么？
（5）事件。
They did some shopping. 他们买东西了。
（6）目的。
They nodded their agreement. 他们点头同意了。
（7）和对象有关的人或物。
Can you read Shakespeare? 你看得到莎士比亚的著作吗？
（8）工具。
He pointed his gun at me. 他用枪对准我。
（9）终极。
We reached London at last. 我们最后到达了伦敦。
（10）处所。
The horse jumped the fences. 马跳过了栅栏。
（11）量度。
The suitcase weighs 10 kilos. 箱子重10公斤。
（12）动作的执行者。
This hall seats 1000 people. 大厅能坐1000人。
（13）抽象的或含糊的意思。
I am afraid we will catch it. 恐怕我们要遇到麻烦。
（14）无具体意义。
We found it useless trying to persuade him to go with us. 我们发现，劝他和我们一起去是没用的。
