Compound Nouns: 复合名词

复合名词由2个或2个以上的名词，形容词，副词或者动词组合在一起构成一个谈论某人，某个地点或事物的新的单词。

首先我们来看看下面三种复合名词的构成方式。

1. Some compound nouns join two words together to form one word.

有些复合名词是由二个单词合并成一个单词。比如：

a low birthrate 低生育率 children's software 儿童软件

Let's eat takeout 我们吃外卖吧！

2. Some compound nouns are two words that work together to refer to one thing.

有些复合名词是二个单词组合成一个词组来表明某一个事物。比如：

family planning 计划生育 maternity leave 产假 family tree 家谱

3. Some compound nouns are formed by joining two or more words together with hyphens.

还有些复合名词是通过连字符"-"将2个或2个以上的单词连在一起构成的。比如：

high self-esteem 自尊心强 a lot of give-and-take 很多的妥协

John's mother-in-law 约翰的岳母
