Folding Clothes 叠衣服
Mom: I need you to help me out with the laundry.
妈妈：我需要你帮我收拾洗好的衣服。
Laundry既可以指需要洗的脏衣服，也可以指正在洗的衣服，还可以指洗好的衣服。
Do you think you can learn to fold your own clothes?
你觉得你能学学怎么叠自己的衣服吗？
Child: Yeah, I'd like to help and learn.
宝宝：嗯，我很愿意帮忙和学习。
Mom: Good, thank you.
妈妈：好的，谢谢。
We'll need a flat surface to work on.
我们需要找一个平地儿来操作。
Can you clean off the bed?
你能把床收拾一下吗？
I'll go get the basket of clean clothes.
我去把那筐干净衣服拿过来。
Child: All done!
宝宝：好了！
What am I going to fold?
我叠什么呀？
Mom: You're going to fold your shirts, pants, and socks.
妈妈：你需要叠你的衣服、裤子和袜子。
I. Folding Pants 叠裤子
Child: What's the easiest?
宝宝：什么最简单？
Mom: Pants are the easiest.
妈妈：裤子最简单。
Grab a pair
拿起一条，
and shake them to remove the wrinkles.
然后抖一抖，就没褶子了。
Then take the bottom hem
然后拿着裤脚的边，
and fold it up one-third of the way.
往上叠到三分之一的地方。
Now fold the top of your pants down to the fold you just made.
现在把裤子的上半部分叠到你刚才叠好的地方。
II. Folding A Shirt 叠衣服
Child: Can we fold shirts next?
宝宝：咱们能接着叠衣服吗？
Mom: Yes.
妈妈：好的。
Lay the shirt on the bed
把衣服放在床上，
with the front facing down.
正面朝下。
Do you see the collar of the shirt?
你看见衣服的领子了吗？
Child: Is that where I put my head through?
宝宝：是我头钻过去的地方吗？
Mom: Yep.
妈妈：是的。
You'll make two lengthwise folds.
你要沿着两边各叠一下。
One fold will be a little to the left of the collar,
一下叠到领子左边一点，
and the other fold will be a little to the right of the collar.
另一下叠到领子右边一点。
Then, fold the sleeves down the length of the shirt.
然后，把袖子沿着衣服的边叠过来。
Finally, you'll fold the bottom of the shirt up to the collar.
最后，把衣服的下面往上叠到领子那儿。
Try to flip it over.
试试把它翻过来。
Child: Wow, that looks nice!
宝宝：哇，真好看！
III. Folding Socks 叠袜子
Child: How do you fold socks?
宝宝：那怎么叠袜子呢？
They're so small.
它们太小了。
Mom: There are lots of ways to fold socks.
妈妈：叠袜子有很多方法。
I'll show you the method I like to use.
我教你一种我喜欢用的方法。
Actually, the hardest part about folding socks is finding every sock's partner.
其实，叠袜子最难的部分是给每只袜子都找到伴儿。
Look in the laundry basket for a matching pair.
去洗衣筐里找一对儿。
Child: OK.
宝宝：好的。
I found these two orange socks.
我找到两只橙色的袜子。
They were easy to see.
它们很容易发现。
Mom: Good.
妈妈：好的。
Lay them on top of each other on the bed.
把它们摞在一起放在床上。
The cuff sides should be together,
袜口那边在一起，
and the toe sides should be together.
脚趾那边在一起。
Now roll the toe sides up
现在把脚趾那边往上卷
until you get to the cuff side.
直到袜口那边。
Then, turn it over,
然后，把它翻过来，
and around all that you've rolled up
包住刚才你卷起来的部分，
to make it into a single, neat roll.
卷成一个整齐的卷。
Child: That sounds fun!
