tiger Model
In ancient times, a man in the State of Chu was often plagued by foxes. So he wanted to catch the fox, but he failed to catch it by many means. Someone said to him, "The tiger is the king of beasts. When the beasts see the tiger, they are afraid. You should make a model of a tiger and put a skin on it and keep it at home. Then the fox will be afraid and won't bother you any more." After hearing this, he felt justified. So he asked for help to make a model of a tiger. He covered the model with a piece of tiger skin and put it under the window.
One day, a fox came in and ran away when he saw the fake tiger. From then on, the house was not disturbed by the fox.
Later, another wild boar was harming the crops in his field. He put the model of the tiger in the grass near the field and asked his son to wait by the road with a sharp weapon. The wild boar came and ate and drank in the field. The wild boar ran away into the grass and came face to face with the fake tiger. The wild boar ran back to the road and was finally caught. So the Chu people thought that his tiger model could conquer all the wild animals in the world.
Before long, they there appeared a monster, like a horse. He put on his tiger's skin and ran to meet the monster. Someone who saw all this stopped him and said, "This is a refute (a legendary beast that eats tigers and leopards). The real tiger is no match for it. You will suffer a loss if you meet it." He ignored persuasion and went on. The horseman saw him coming, let out a thunderous cry, seized him and bit him, and in a moment the man was dead.
On the one hand, we should proceed from reality, analyze specific problems and avoid making the mistake of empiricism. On the other hand, we should accept the good-natured persuasion of others with an open mind, rather than being self-righteous and willful.
象虎
古时候，楚国有个人经常受到狐狸的祸害，于是就想捕捉那只狐狸，可是他采取了很多方法都没有捉到狐狸。有人对他说：“老虎是百兽之王，野兽见到老虎，都会害怕。你应该做一只老虎的模型，再找一张虎皮蒙在上面，放在家里，这样狐狸就会害怕，不再祸害你了。”他听了以后，觉得有理。就依照这个人的意思，找人帮忙做了一只老虎的模型，找来一张虎皮把模型蒙好，放到了窗户下面。
一天，一只狐狸闯了进来，看见这只假老虎，吓得掉头就跑。从此以后，家里再没受到狐狸的骚扰。
后来，又有一只野猪在他的田里祸害庄稼，他就把老虎的模型放在田边草丛里，又让儿于拿看利器在大路口守候。野猪来了，他在田里一声吃喝，野猪吓得逃往草丛之中，正好迎面碰上这只假老虎，吓得野猪又跑回路口，最终被捉住。于是楚人认为他的老虎模型可以制伏天下所有的野兽。
不久，他们那里又出现了一只怪物，似马非马。他就披好虎皮迎着怪物奔去。有人看见了这一切，制止他说：“这是驳(传说中能食虎豹的猛兽)啊，真的老虎尚且敌不过它，你迎上去是要吃亏的。” 他不听劝说，继续往前走。那只似马非马的怪物看到他闯过来，发出雷鸣般的叫声，抓住他就咬了起来，瞬间，这个人就死掉了。
一方面，做事情要从实际出发，要做到具体问题具体分析，不可犯经验主义的错误。另一方面，对于别人善意的劝说，要虚心接受，不能自以为是，一意孤行。
