每日英语精读英译英：American retail sales rose
如果你把每一篇所谓的“”英语阅读”都当做“依赖中文才能懂”，也就是把英语阅读当成“”英译汉”式“阅读”，也就意味着你在同时“放弃”了给你“用”英语，“说”英语的机会和锻炼。长此以往，英语使用能力弱的现状没有改变。
你可以见到英语“说”很多中文，但我敢保证，你“说”英语的能力很弱。
一、你“用”中文，还是“用”英语“读”以下英语？
American retail sales rose in July for a third consecutive month since the pandemic began. But markets around the world were spooked by the figures, which brought evidence that the country’s economic recovery was slowing down amid a rise in covid-19 infections and deaths.
Economists expected retail-sales growth of 1.9% in July; the actual figure was 1.2%.
正确的英语阅读是这样的：
二、“读”英语就是“用”英语，就是“说”英语。
“不懂”就查英英字典就是了，没有人光靠“老师”的中文解释就能提高英语阅读能力。
1) American retail sales rose in July
1. If we buy something in a samll quantity,like one kilo,two kilos of apples,we are buying something in retail sales,or retail prices.Tge prices are much higher.
你是“说”这些英语“理解”英语retail sales，还是“说”中文“零售”来“读懂”之？
这就是通过“英语阅读”给不给自己“说”英语的问题。
2.Retail sales are different from whole sales(估计习惯用中文“学”英语的人根本没有能力见到英语retail sales能主动“使用”英语whole sales这个词，除非他的“中文思维”里首先出现了要用英语表达的“批发业”这个中文意思。
Whole sales give us a much lower price than retail sales.

1.When we say 12345,these are consecutive numbers.But 1379 are not cinsecutive numbers.They are broken numbers.
2.If it rains from Monday to Thursday without stopping,we'll say It rains for four consecutive days.
为什么非得“说”中文不可，才能“懂”consecutive的意思呢？
给自己一个死记这些英语的机会不是很好吗？

除非我们脑子里首先出现中文“新冠肺炎”，否则，不会有多少人见pandemic时会主动说得出coronavirus,Covi-19这些英语。这就正是英译汉式“英语阅读”不给我们“使用”英语的体现。
4) But markets around the world were spooked by the figures
说老实话，孤立去看单词，我也和你完全一样：完全“不知道”英语spook“什么意思”。但是，这绝对不是我去查英汉词典“知道”它的中文意思的理由。通过上下文，我就能“知道”它的英语意思。
我是这么“读懂”它的：
1.American retail sales rose in July for a third consecutive month.That means it is very good
2. But markets around the world were spooked by the figures
That means the FIGURES in different countries are different.Your figure is better than mine.Mibe figure is better than his.
So,To be spooked by maybe means be different from one another.
不一定十分准确，但通过上下文看：差不离。
5) which brought evidence that the country’s economic recovery was slowing down amid a rise in covid-19 infections and deaths.
1.which brought evidence that means which shows that
2.Economic recovery means economy is getting better and better.
能长期这么“英译英”式“英语阅读”，说实话，有没有英语语言环境无所谓了。
只是我们很多人耗费十年时间“英语阅读”，也没能“读出”这样的“高度”：永远只会“英译汉”。
难怪我们总是如此地诉求：英语语言环境，英语语言环境，英语语言环境。重要的事情说三遍。
