汉译英赏析（英汉传神翻译欣赏与训练）

什么是传神翻译？

文学翻译贵在“传神”。所谓“传神”，就是把原文的意思表达得非常准确，意境展现得非常逼真、鲜活，让人读后产生一种拍案叫绝的冲动。要实现这一目标，除了具备深厚的语言功底，学习和掌握一定的翻译技巧也是非常有益的。

01 英汉传神翻译欣赏

怎样翻译下面的英语句子？怎样翻译才比较传神？

She had been so carefully groomed by thousands of hands and hearts.

相关段落和背景信息：

作者即将乘坐“土星”5号运载火箭飞往月球，他把火箭比作自己的舞伴。

My Saturn V sparkled like a 363-foot-high jewel rampant against the night sky, center stage and draped in spotlights. She was no longer a mystery, and it seemed that she eagerly awaited my arrival, not as some cold, distant prom queen, but as a rambunctious and confident go-go gal of the seventies. My partner for the last dance was a confident and happy thoroughbred, trembling and anxious to get on with the mission for which she had been so carefully groomed by thousands of hands and hearts.

难点分析和翻译技巧：

这里的难点有两个：一是groom的理解和翻译，二是by thousands of hands and hearts的翻译。

关于groom，美国的Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary给出了如下的释义：

(1) to make neat or attractive（使干净整洁或引人注目）；

(2) to get into readiness for a specific objective（为某项任务做好了准备）。

既然作者把火箭比作他的舞伴并且用she来称呼，那我们翻译时就要朝着这个思路走——在这里把groom翻译成“打扮”。

再说by thousands of hands and hearts的翻译。在汉语中，我们可以说“用手”或者“用心”打扮一位姑娘，但我们不能像英语那样“用手和心”去打扮一位姑娘。我们翻译时可以通过一定的技巧来实现原文的准确翻译。

试译：

我最后一曲的舞伴是一位自信、快乐而且训练有素的姑娘，她急不可耐地想开始这次不同寻常的任务，为了这次任务，她已经被成千上万人的手精心地打扮过了。

这里的“精心地”就把“carefully”和“by hearts”的意思巧妙地融合起来了。
