美国“任务与目标”网站11月2日报道称，美国五角大楼近日悄悄地从其官方网站中删除了超过13万份有关阿富汗战争的图片和视频资料。
文章称，这些照片被删除表面上是为了保护阿富汗平民免受报复，但很多美军在战争中的照片，也一起被删除了。
这些发布在美国国防部下属网站“美国防视觉信息分发服务”（DVIDS）的照片和视频可以追溯到十多年前，这一网站是一个巨大的公共素材库，内容可供公众和媒体使用。
The images and videos, which date back more than a decade, were previously published to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service, or DVIDS, a vast repository of public domain material that’s available for use by the public and the press.
这件事随后在网上发酵。
据美国《新闻周刊》报道，美国五角大楼发言人约翰·柯比对此进行了回应，承认有大概12.4万张照片以及1.7万条视频被下架了。
"There were approximately 124,000 photographs, still images and about 17,000 videos that remain unpublished," Kirby answered when asked how many pictures were taken down.
他解释说：“我们没有删除（照片和视频），但是我们关闭了公众访问渠道，并为以后再次发布进行存档。”
他进一步解释了这样做的原因：“我们清理了数千份影像资料，这些图像会显示许多阿富汗人的面孔以及其他任何可识别的信息，这些人是在过去20年为我们工作提供支持的人。”
...that would show the faces or any other identifiable information about many of the Afghans that we have worked for, we've supported and have supported us over the last 20 years."
美国“任务与目标”网站报道称，尽管这些图像被删除，但是“证据”还在，在谷歌上还能搜到这些图像的缩略图。
Yet, evidence of their removal remains, resulting in dead links, or thumbnails of the original photo appearing on Google when the image is searched for.
