中学英语词汇基本上都是英语中的常用词或者说是高频词。高考考纲收录了大约3500单词。这些词汇中，有些词有多种词性，且不同词性的读音不一样，对中国学生来说，虽然不见得会写错，但却非常容易混淆它们的读音。
读音混淆了有什么后果？一般来说，这种情况大概就像我们平时读错或说错字的结果一样。在特定语境中出现，听话的人一般都不会解读错误。不过，这多少反映了个人语言基本功的问题。
下面成对列举的单词基本上都是常用词，且其读音比较容易混淆，共计680条，值得平时在学习中注意。由于有同形异音词，所以在这种情况下标记了词性，以帮助判断发音。例如record作为名词和动词的发音就不一样。当名词时，其重音在第一个音节上；当动词时，其重音在第二个音节上。
由于数量较多，所以分几篇展示，以便阅读。下面各组词之间的“|”符号是分隔符。两个分隔符之间的词在发音上容易被混淆。
