尽管有很多阅卷老师说在作文中尽量不要使用动词短语，但这其实并不是绝对的。适当使用一些正式的动词短语可以让文章更加生动，也可以让阅卷老师感受到你扎实的英语写作基本功，容易给阅卷老师留下一个好印象。
其次，我们从作文的评分标准来看，无论是托福还是雅思，或者是考研，都提到“语言自然流畅，词汇丰富”，而词汇丰富就包括对于正式动词短语的使用。接下来小班长跟伙伴们推荐10个超高频动词短语。
比如下面关于“死亡”的表达：
By having experienced the death of a pet, children might be better able to process the emotions involved when someone close to them passes away.
点评：用pass away而没有用die，说明你词汇表达丰富，给老师留下好印象，甚至加分。

点评：用die没有问题，不会丢分，但也不会给阅卷老师留下你词汇表达丰富的印象。

点评：check out是宾馆用语，当你退房的时候使用。当一个人离开生命的时候，也check out。但check out表示“死亡”的时候，是俚语，不是正式用语，用在书面写作中不合适。
所以，当老师告诉你不要用动词短语时，指的是第三句中check out这类的非正式短语。
译文：孩子们经历了宠物的死亡，或许能够更好地处理当他们亲近的人去世时所产生的情感。

1、 call for: demand（需求）, require（需要） (reforms, an investigation, patience, etc.)
This situation calls for calm deliberation and a swift, but effective result.
译文：这种情况需要冷静的考量和一个迅速而有效的结果。
The judge called for order after the crowd in the courtroom erupted in angry reaction to the verdict.
译文：在法庭上的人群对判决做出愤怒的反应后，法官要求维持秩序。
2、carry out: conduct（组织、引导、做）, do (an experiment, an investigation, justice, etc.)
Scientists who carry out controversial research are often criticized in the media.
译文：从事（做）有争议研究的科学家经常受到媒体的批评。
When governments prevent reporters from carrying out their journalistic duties, society as a whole loses.
译文：当政府阻止记者履行其新闻职责时，整个社会就会蒙受损失。
3、account for:make up（组成）,explain（解释）,consider（考虑）（half the population,the fluctuation,variables,etc. ）
These economic forecasts also try to account for variables such as unforeseen natural disasters that can heavily burden the budget.
译文：这些经济预测还试图考虑一些可变因素，比如可能给预算带来沉重负担的不可预见的自然灾害。
The police grew even more suspicious when the suspect could not account for his whereabouts on the night of the crime.
译文：当嫌疑犯无法解释案发当晚他的下落时，警察更加怀疑了。
4、phase in/out：introduce（介绍，引进） or eliminate in stages（逐步消除）（changes,policy,system,etc.）
Changes of this magnitude should not be implemented all at once but rather phased in to allow the staff to adjust accordingly.
译文：如此重大的变化不应立即全部执行，而应分阶段进行，以便工作人员作出相应的调整。
The bonus system will be phased out over the next five years to reflect the reality of increasing costs.

5、point out：draw attention to something（引起注意）

6、follow up:to take further action（采取进一步行动）
Applicants are advised to follow up their interviews with a quick thank-you email.
译文：我们建议求职者在面试后尽快发一封感谢信，以便跟进他们的面试情况。
7、put forward:present（提出）,express（表达）（argument,proposal,etc.）
Proponents of legalizing cannabis use often put forward the argument that doing this will benefit society by ridding it of gangs and the black market.
译文：大麻合法化的支持者经常提出这样的论点:这样做后，社会上没有犯罪团伙和黑市，从而造福社会。
8、resort to:make use of as a last（usually undesirable)option（violence,cheating,etc.）（作为最后的选择）
After repeated attempts to effect change through peaceful protest,it is understandable that certain individuals might resort to violence to be heard.
译文：在多次试图通过和平抗议来实现变革之后，某些人可能会诉诸暴力，以引起人们的注意，这是可以理解的。（将暴力行为作为自己最后的选择）
9、rule out:exclude from consideration（从考虑中排除）（an action,idea,etc.）
Many Western medical professionals rule out the benefits of Eastern traditional treatments without even giving the benefit of the doubt or conducting some research.

10、take on:accept（接受）（a challenge,a project,etc.）
Not everyone is suited to helping others,so those who take on philanthropic projects should think carefully before committing to such work.
译文：并不是每个人都适合帮助别人，所以那些从事慈善事业的人在投身于慈善事业之前应该三思而后行。
最后，来举几个非正式的动词短语，同学们要切记不要让它们出现在你的作文当中。
get by（得到）、do over（重做）、figure out（算出）、freak out（吓一跳）、ask out（询问）等这几个动词短语都是非正式动词短语，它不适合被写入你的作文中。
