Building a Snowman 堆雪人Child: Mom, I think it stopped snowing.
宝宝：妈妈，雪好像停了。
Can we build a snowman?
咱们能堆雪人吗？
Mom: Yes, but be sure to dress warmly.
妈妈：能啊，但是一定要穿暖和点儿。
Child: Okay and I'll grab a carrot for the snowman's nose.
宝宝：好啊，我去拿胡萝卜当雪人的鼻子。
Mom: We'll look in the garden for stones to use for his eyes
妈妈：咱们在花园里找点儿石头当他的眼睛，
and sticks to use for his arms.
树枝当他的胳膊。
Child: I'll look in the closet for a hat and scarf.
宝宝：我去柜子里找帽子和围巾。
I have everything we need.
咱们需要的东西都找到了。
Let's go!

Okay, how do I start building the snowman?
嗯，我怎么开始堆雪人呢？
Mom: First, you squeeze together some snow in your hands to form a small ball.
妈妈：首先，用手把雪攥一个小球。
Child: Like this?
宝宝：是这样吗？
Mom: Very good.
妈妈：很好。
Now, we roll that ball in the snow to make a bigger ball.
现在，咱们在雪里滚，做一个更大的球。
Be sure to rotate the ball every now and then.
得一直转这个球。
If you don't, you'll get a cylinder instead of a sphere.
要不然你就做成圆柱形而不是球形了。
Cylinder读作 [ˈsilindər]，sphere读作 [sfir]。
Child: The snowball grows so quickly.
宝宝：雪球这么快就变大了。
Mom: We'll need to make three snowballs:
妈妈：咱们需要做三个雪球：
a small one, a medium one and a large one.
一个小的，一个中的和一个大的。
You're doing a great job.
你做得很棒。
Child: I think I'm done.
宝宝：我觉得我做好了。
Mom: Now let's make the snowman's face.
妈妈：现在咱们做雪人的脸。
Child: I'll use two stones for his eyes, a carrot for his nose,
宝宝：我用两块石头当他的眼睛，一根胡萝卜当他的鼻子，
and three sticks for his smile.
三根树枝当他的笑脸。
Mom: Now you can help me stack the snowballs
妈妈：现在你可以帮我把雪球摞上了，
and then finish dressing the snowman.
然后把雪人装扮一下。
The large snowball is the bottom,
大雪球在底下，
the medium one is the middle,
中的在中间，
and the small one is the head.
小的是头。
Child: I'll put sticks on the middle snowball for his arms.
宝宝：我把树枝插在中间的雪球上当他的胳膊。
Mom: Let me lift you up so you can put on the snowman's hat and scarf.
妈妈：我把你抱起来，这样你就能给雪人把帽子和围巾戴上了。
Child: My snowman looks great!

But my hands are cold.

Can we go inside and have hot cocoa?

Cocoa读作 [ˈkəukəu]。
Mom: In a moment.
妈妈：马上。
Let me show you one more thing.

Stand in front of that fluffy snow with your arms outstretched, like the letter T.

Good.

Now fall back into the snow.

You'll be safe.

Child: That was fun!

Mom: Keep your arms straight

and bring them down to your side

then up above your head.

Then keep your legs straight

and move them away from each other

Child: Is that an angel?

Mom: Yes, it's a snow angel.

Mom: Okay, go inside.
