茶是世界三大饮品之一，全球产茶国和地区达60多个，饮茶人口超过20亿。2019年11月，联合国宣布将每年5月21日确定为“国际茶日”。
Tea is one of the three major drinks in the world, produced in more than 60 countries and regions worldwide and enjoyed by over two billion people. In December 2019, the United Nations declared May 21 as International Tea Day.

国际茶日是中国首次成功推动设立的农业领域国际性节日。2019年6月，中国茶叶学会提出设立“国际茶日”提案，在罗马闭幕的联合国粮食及农业组织大会第41届会议上审议通过，并提交给联合国大会。至此以后，每年5月21日设为“国际茶日”，旨在促进全球农业的可持续发展。
中国是茶的故乡。中国茶文化兴于唐，繁于宋。千载以来，品茗饮茶在中国被视为生活之雅事，盛世之清尚。茶亦是中国人最富情趣、最具全民性的生活习俗之一，如今在中国很多传统茶乡，茶更是与科技、产业紧密结合，成为乡村振兴、百姓致富的金叶子。
茶也是享誉全球的“中国名片”，从古代通过茶马互市远播四方，到如今沿着“丝绸之路经济带”“21世纪海上丝绸之路”跨越山海，中国茶成为世界之饮品。
