Smother 一词比较好记，就是在熟词 mother 前面加个 s 。该词源自古英语 smorian （使窒息而死），其基本含义也是“使窒息而死、闷死（某人）”，主要指通过捂住人或动物的嘴鼻使之无法呼吸而亡，常用搭配 smother sb (with sth) ，比如：
