American English uses many words from Latin, French, German and Native American.
If you plan on taking any English tests, or want to improve your English to closer to native level, you MUST know all of these words.
1.A la carte (French)
点菜式（与自助式对应）
英文翻译：Choosing food on a menu as separate items rather than one whole group. Choosing and picking specific Items from a group of items.
I’ll choose my suit a la carte instead of buying a complete set.
2.Raccoon (Native American)
浣熊
英文翻译：A medium sized mammal native to North America. Usually nocturnal.
Raccoons love to scavenge through people’s trash at night. They can make a mess!
3.Creek (Native American)
小河；小溪
英文翻译：A small stream or brook, tributary of a bigger river
Directly behind my house is a creek I used to play in when I was a kid.
4.Carte Blanche (French)
全权委托
Freedom to do as one pleases
My boss gave me carte Blanche on the new company project.
5.Coup de grace (French)
致命一击；决定性的一击
英文翻译：The final blow or strike that kills someone (used proverbially)
His last point in the debate was the coup de grace that utterly destroyed his opponent’s argument.
6.Sauerkraut (German)
德国泡菜的一种
英文翻译：Fermented cabbage originally from Germany
Usually you put sauerkraut on a hot dog or sausage along with some mustard to add some additional flavor to it.
