单词拼写题是中考英语试题中常见的题型之一，主要考查学生“识词、记词和用词”的能力。这类试题体现了单词的使用“词不离句”的特点，要求学生注意单词在句子中的确切含义与正确形式，而不是孤立地去死记硬背单词，在句子中缺词的情况下，弄懂句子的意思是关键。解答此类题时要注意“两个确定”，即“确定单词”和“确定形式”。
(－)、读懂句意确定单词例 1、 The first day of the week is Sunday.
例 ２、 She didn’t go to school yesterday because she was ill.
例 ３、The football match still went on though it was raining heavily.
(二)、瞻前顾后确定形式正确拼写出单词后，还要注意分析该单词是否需要形式变化。英语词类中有六种词有形式的变化，它们分别是：动词、名词、数词、代词、形容词、副词。
1. 名词： 一般考虑单、复数和所有格的变化。
例1 Do you like white？We have shirts of different colours .
例2 September 10th is Teachers’ Day.
2. 形容词和副词： 这两类词学生极易混淆，做题时应仔细分析，慎重选择究竟用形容词还是副词，除此之外还要考虑形容词和副词比较及和最高级的变化。
例1 He was very angry with the man upstairs and began to shout，“Stop singing！”
例 2 On Sundays，children play happily in the park.
3. 动词： 动词变化形式较为复杂，一般有五种 :动词原形、第三人称单数形式、现在分词,过去式和过去分词。动词是难点，综合考查了学生运用英语知识的能力。
例1 Thank you very much for lending me your bike.
跟在介词后做宾语用动名词形式，故填lending。
例 2 When he was ten，he became interested in math.
become interested in为固定词组，意为“对……感兴趣”，故此处应填interested。
4. 数词： 注意确定用基数词还是序数词。
例1 There are twelve months in a year.
例 2 December is the twelfth month of the year.
5. 代词：主要有人称代词、物主代词、反身代词、不定代词和疑问代词几方面考虑，除此之外还要考虑代词的格和代词的数，该用单数还是复数形式。
例 1 Help yourself to some fish，Jim.
例 2 “Help yourselves to some fish，please. ”Mrs. Green said to the twins.
