英语单词interest实际上是由拉丁语前缀inter-和est组成。

【拉丁语】interest：interest, interesse, interfuit, interfutus v. it concerns, it interests;
拆解：inter est。
在拉丁语中，inter也是一个介词。

强烈建议在认识拉丁语前缀inter-的基础上，顺便熟悉英语单词Internet（互联网），interview（采访，面试），interpret（口译），interchange（互换），intersection（交集），interact（互动），intercept（截断）。
在拉丁语中，est是动词esse（相当于英语的be）的第三人称单数现在式，相当于英语的is，德语的ist。
其中的-t是表“第三人称单数”尾缀。
请家长朋友注意2点：
1、拉丁语的词根es-对应日耳曼语中的is-，也就是元音e变化为i。
2、德语的ist保留了表“第三人称单数”尾缀，而英语、荷兰语中-t脱落了。
我相信，认识英语的is的小朋友再记忆德语的ist绝对是易如反掌。
接下来，再把元音i变化为e就可以得到拉丁语和法语的est。
由于拉丁语动词词尾通常有表“人称”和“数”的尾缀，所以，通常会省略作主语的人称代词。
认识英语单词poet（诗人）的小朋友都可以十分轻松地顺便掌握拉丁语的相应单词poeta。
也就已经实际上掌握拉丁语句子“Est poēta.”，相当于英语的“He is a poet.”，意思是“他是一位诗人。”。
同时，也已经掌握拉丁语句子“Nōn est agricola.”，相当于英语的“He is not a farmer.”，意思是“他不是农民。”。
请家长朋友特别注意：如果您希望自己的孩子在中考高考中取得好成绩，就一定要帮助孩子通过了解词源记单词并尽早读懂英语原版教材。

利用我们的汉语理解力，读懂相应的英语内容绝对是易如反掌。根本不存在什么“语法”问题。
请家长朋友认真思考：汉语中的“~素”里的“素”是什么意思？
【汉语】素 sù①本色；白色：～服。
②颜色单纯；不艳丽：～净。
③蔬菜、瓜果等食物（跟‘荤’相对）：吃～│三荤一～。
④本来的；原有的：～质│～性。
⑤带有根本性质的物质：色～│毒～│因～│元～│维生～。
⑥素来；向来：～日│平～│～不相识│安之若～。
请认真思考“色素”、“毒素”、“因素”、“元素”、“维生素”都是指什么。

c. 1300, "earth, air, fire, or water; one of the four things regarded by the ancients as the constituents of all things," from Old French element (10c.), from Latin elementum "rudiment, first principle, matter in its most basic form" (translating Greek stoikheion), origin and original sense unknown. Meaning "simplest component of a complex substance" is late 14c. Modern sense in chemistry is from 1813, but is not essentially different from the ancient one. Meaning "proper or natural environment of anything" is from 1590s, from the old notion that each class of living beings had its natural abode in one of the four elements. Elements "atmospheric force" is 1550s.
相信您已经看出来：我们并不能把英语的element和汉语中的“元素”完全对应。
我们可以利用这本生物学教材清楚了解什么是元素：
Matter consists of chemical elements in pure form and in combinations called compounds.
大意是：物质由纯形式的化学元素和称为化合物的组合组成。
英语中的matter和substance都表“物质”，但它们在英语语境中是有区别的。
英语中，由matter表示的物质是由纯的元素和化合物组成。
所谓“元素”实际上就是“纯的物质”。
【日语】素[す]本来的，不加修饰的，不掺杂其他成分的，无名无势的，地道的
日语解释“素”有“不掺杂其他成分的”含义，也就是“纯”的物质。
【日语（英语解释）】素 n. (Hira=す) pureness n. (Hira=もと) source, origin
我们可以看出来：这里的“素”对应英语的pureness。
【英语】pureness['pjʊrnɪs /'pjʊənɪs]n. 清洁; 洁白; 纯粹; 贞节
拆解：pure ness（名词后缀）。
这是一个由形容词加名词后缀-ness构成的名词。
我们只要重点记忆形容词pure就可以了。
