今日阅读：①Editors of newspapers and magazines often go to extremes to provide their reader with unimportant facts and statistics. Last year a journalist had been instructed by a well-known magazine to write an article on the president's palace in a new African republic. ②When the article arrived, the editor read the first sentence and then refuse to publish it. The article began: 'Hundreds of steps lead to the high wall which surrounds the president's palace'. The editor at once sent the journalist a fax instructing him find out the exact number of steps and the height of the wall.

稿子寄来后，编辑看第一句话就拒绝予以发表。文章的开头是这样的：“几百级台阶通向环绕总统的高墙。”编辑立即给那位记者发去传真，要求他核实一下台阶的确切数字和围墙的高度。
（1）and连词的用法the editor read the first sentence and then refuse to publish it.
在这个句子中可以看出有两个动词，read和refuse，一个句子里为什么会出现两个谓语，这就是and连词的作用。下面听我一一道来。
①and连接两个并列关系
It is impossible to live in society and be independent of society. 生于社会，不能脱离社会。（and连接两个不定式）
②and连接两个动词，但不是并列关系，但有所关联
Try and do it again. 再试试看。
③and可以做叠词
longer and longer 越来越长
over and over 反复
④and可以表示加法，或在口语中表达100以上的数字时使用
One and two are three. 一加二等于三。
one hundred and twelve. 112。
and的用法与or有很多相似之处，后面我们用到再讲，记得关注我哈。
（2）at once表示立即，马上一般副词都可以放在句中或句尾，而副词短语则一般放在句尾。
I must see the doctor at once! 我现在就要见医生！
She ran briskly out of the classroom. 她轻快的跑出了教室。
