‘No, I jumped，’he said.
‘You jumped?’
‘I needed a bath,’he said.
Conseil had risked his life to save me（不顾生命危险来救我）, but he still found time to joke.
‘Why didn’t the ship stop to rescue（ /ˈreskjuː/ v. 营救，援救） us?’
‘It couldn’t. The monster’s teeth smashed（/smæʃ/ v.打碎，打破） our rudder（ /ˈrʌdə/ n.船舵）（毁了我们的船舵）,’Conseil said. ‘The ship was out of control（失控）.’
We said no more because staying afloat（ /əˈfləʊt/ adv. 漂浮着） in the choppy（ /ˈtʃɒpi/adj. 波涛汹涌的；波浪起伏的） sea took all our breath（ /breθ/ n. n. 气体，气息） away（在波涛汹涌的海面上漂浮让我们透不过气来）. As we swam, we took it in turns to（轮流（做某事）） pull each other along, so that we could also take it in turns to rest.
