连词是一种虚词，它不能独立担当句子成分而只起连接词与词，短语与短语以及句与句的作用。连词主要可分为两类：并列连词和从属连词。并列连词用来连接平行的词，词组或分句；从属连词主要用来连接从句，即名词性从句，状语从句和定语从句。今天，我们主要讲解的是并列连词的基本用法。

（1） and与or
and表示顺承，or表示选择时意为“或”，表示解释时意为“即”，在祈使句中意为“否则”
I can speak English and Janpanese.
我会说英语和日语。

（5） or, or else与otherwise意为否则
I must work hard, or I’ll fail in the exam.
我必须努力学习，否则我会考试不及格的。
（6） either….or…..意为或者….或者….，谓语动词采用就近原则
Either you or I am right.
不是你就是我是对的。
（7） not…but….不是….而是….,not和but后面用的词要遵循一致原则
Not money but wisdom is what we want.
不是金钱，而是智慧，才是我们想要的。
They were not the bones of an animal, but(the bones)of a human being.
它们不是动物的骨头，而是人类的骨头。
（8） only, still, yet, and/but yet, 它们与but 相同
He promised, only he did not keep his word.
他答应了，只是他不遵守诺言。
He failed again ,still he did not lose his hope.
他又失败了，但他仍然没有失去希望。
He is very rich, yet he is not contented.
他很富有，但他并不满足。
（9） however然而，但是
Our task is hard, however, we should work to the end.
我们的任务是艰巨的，但是，我们应该工作到最后。
（10） on the other hand, on the contrary 相反的，另一方面
On the other hand, many women choose to go out to work.
在另一方面，许多妇女又出去工作。
It’s no trouble at all; on the contrary, it will be a great pleasure to help you
根本不费事，恰恰相反，非常荣幸能帮到你。
（11） for并列连词可表示因为之意
It must have rained last night, for the ground is wet now.
昨晚一定下过雨，因为现在地上是湿的。
注意：for是并列连词，不能置于含有两个并列分句的句子的句首，只能将其放在两个分句之间。

（12） so 与therefore因此，所以
He was ill, so he didn’t attend the meeting.
他病了，所以没有参加会议。
Muscle cells need lots of fuel and therefore burn lots of calories .teacheray.com
肌肉细胞需要很多能量，所以会燃烧大量卡路里。
（13） thus因此，于是
He studied hard; thus he got high marks.
他学习很努力，因此成绩很高。
（14） then 因此，那么
I’ll study medicine for seven years;then I’ll be a doctor.
我将学习医学七年，然后我将成为一名医生。
(15) but表示转折，while表示对比
He is not my son, but my nephew.
他不是我的儿子，而是我的侄子。
He is a doctor while I am a worker.
他是医生，而我是工人。
