四、a和an是不定冠词，它们的基本用法是：
1.泛指一类人或事物，并不表示具体的某个人或事物。如:My parents want me to be a doctor, but 'm not sure about that.

2.指同类事物中的任何一个，相当于any，翻译成中文时可以不译出:A square has four sides.正方形有四条边。
3.表示数量，可译为“一”，但表示数量的概念时没有one语气强烈。如:You'll have to wait an hour or two.

4.用在表示时间、速度、价格等意义的名词之前，表示“每一”，相当于every:Mary can type 40 words a minute.
